Amazon.ae has plenty of features for customers as well as the favorite platform for Advertisers

After capturing so many impressions, the eCommerce giant finally re-brands SOUQ.com into Amazon.ae: the new marketplace for United Arab Emirates.

On Tuesday (May 01, 2019), Amazon announced the launch of a new marketplace targeting the Middle Eastern market in replace of SOUQ.com, which was acquire nearly two years back for $580 million (Dh2.13 billion).

The SOUQ.com URL automatically redirected customers to the Amazon.ae with the message of, “Shop millions of your favorite products from your new local shopping destination”.

This move comes after losses international operations for Amazon and unable to compete with local eCommerce platforms in UAE, first noted at CNBC report. Amazon already gave some signs that it has something big plan for Middle Eastern Marketplace, back in 2017 when acquired Souq.com. However, Souq remains available in Saudi Arabia & Egypt.

With this launch, Ronaldo Mouchawar (Souq Co-founder & Vice President of Amazon Mena) highlighted that,

“Since the acquisition, we’ve always looked at what’s best for our customers. A lot of customers trusted the Amazon brand – they love Souq, but they also wanted most of the features.”

 

Mr. Mouchawar’s added, “Consumers can also expect to see features, like recommendations and wish lists, and faster shipping options. And, we put together what is best for our local customers, but with global capability.”

With this marketplace, advertising on this also be in the limelight for many advertisers. As Souq.com was already one of the most popular advertising platforms in the region because of its direct targeted alongside with Google & Facebook, and with Amazon, it will be going far more engaging.

UAE customers can shop over 30 million products choices from local & international businesses, including products previously available on Souq and 5 million products from Amazon US and experience the rich browsing, accurate results, wishlists, product reviews and reliable delivery with the trusted Amazon name.

Consumers can search on the platform for their desired products and pay in AED by using local and international debit card, credit card, cash on delivery (COD) and by Amazon Gift Card. Will Amazon Prime be offered?

“At this stage we don’t have yet a plan to launch Amazon Prime. We’ll be launching different services at different times”, said Mr. Mouchawar.
