Amazon is planning to launch its new marketplace i.e., “Amazon.ae”, for UAE in replace of Souq.com
Amazon already gave some signs, back in 2017 when acquired Souq.com for $580 million that it has something big plan for Middle Eastern marketplace.
Now all the speculations are seeing to become reality, Amazon is planning to expand its global reach by launching a new marketplace for UAE: “Amazon.ae” in replace of Souq.com.
This news gain more weightage after published CNBC report stated that “Amazon has been reaching out in recent weeks to large third-party sellers in North America, informing them of an upcoming opportunity to reach consumers, first in United Arab Emirates and then in Saudi Arabia, according to several merchants who spoke with CNBC. They all asked not to be identified because the discussions with Amazon were private.”
From the last month, Souq Sellers have been seeing a new page, mention below.
Amazon are going to merge all the Souq credentials with the brand new marketplace.
Recently, the two screenshots of new marketplace are flashing over the internet, were shared by Esanjo and JadoPado’s founder Omar Kassin on Twitter and expected that its official launch is almost here.
The first screenshot comes from the homepage of Amazon.ae and flashing a notification on the top of the page is – “SOUQ is now Amazon.”
The second screenshot is from the live platform of Amazon.ae, suggesting that we may soon see a new marketplace for UAE.
On the same pages, Amazon states, “Since 2017, we have been focused on integrating our Souq and Amazon offerings and working hard to move our Sellers swiftly over to the Amazon system to provide a more effective service and greater selling opportunities that will help them grow their business.”
Will new marketplace be risky for Souq Sellers?
Potentially, yes, as many Souq Sellers are worrying to use Amazon as they are not familiar with this platform until/unless they didn’t get the proper guidance to be habitual. However, this new move of Amazon opens new doors to expand business globally. Amazon is even encouraging those sellers who are still using Souq.com, to use and list inventory on the new marketplace rather than to use Souq.com. Even, a large majority of consumers will give an Amazon Middle East a chance.
This action shows that Souq.com is no longer to use. However, it is still not clear that Amazon will shutdown Souq.com or not.
